🥄 FIRST BITE
The appetizer before we dive in
Welcome to The Deeter Digest. This week, TreeHouse Foods sold for $2.9 billion, YETI dropped $38M on a shaker bottle company, and Monster announced a female energy drink called FLRT.
The private label empire just got bought. Let’s shake things up.
🍊 THE MAIN COURSE
This week’s biggest CPG moves
TreeHouse Foods Exits for $2.9 Billion
Private equity firm Investindustrial is acquiring TreeHouse Foods (NYSE: THS) for $2.9 billion in cash, marking the end of the contract manufacturer’s public market journey. TreeHouse produces private label products for retailers like Costco, Walmart, and Kroger, generating $801 million in Q2 2025 sales with $73 million in adjusted EBITDA.
The deal represents a bet on the continued growth of private label as consumers seek value amid persistent inflation. For TreeHouse, going private means escaping quarterly earnings pressure while investing in automation and capacity. The timing is perfect – retailers are pushing harder than ever into private label as a margin play, and TreeHouse owns the infrastructure to make it happen. This isn’t sexy CPG, but it’s profitable CPG.
YETI Shakes Up M&A with $38M Helimix Acquisition
YETI is spending $38 million to acquire Helimix, a company that makes shaker bottles with a hexagonal design that mixes without a ball. Yes, you read that correctly – $38 million for geometry. Helimix will cease operations as YETI incorporates the technology into new drinkware.
This marks YETI’s first acquisition and signals their ambition beyond coolers and tumblers. The premium outdoor brand sees opportunity in the $2 billion shaker bottle market, betting they can charge YETI prices for better mixing technology. At $38 million, they’re paying roughly 10x revenue for a patent and some engineering. In the YETI universe, where people pay $45 for a tumbler, a $60 shaker bottle suddenly makes sense.
TRIP Reaches $300M+ Valuation on Relaxation Wave
Relaxation beverage brand TRIP closed $40 million led by Coefficient Capital, with celebrity investors including Joe Jonas, Paul Wesley, and Ashley Graham. The company expects 2025 sales to top $100 million as the relaxation category – positioned as the antidote to energy drinks – gains momentum.
TRIP’s raise follows Recess’s $30 million round last month, proving investors see opportunity in helping consumers chill out rather than amp up. The $300 million valuation for a beverage brand suggests we’re in full bubble territory, but with distribution expanding and consumers seeking stress relief, the category has legs. The question: Can relaxation beverages become as habitual as their caffeinated counterparts?
💰 THE FUNDING FRENZY
Big checks being written
The Mega Rounds
SKIMS hit a $5 billion valuation with $225 million from Goldman Sachs, BDT, and MSD Partners. Kim Kardashian’s shapewear empire is approaching $1 billion in annual revenue six years after launch. The valuation multiple suggests IPO positioning.
Gopuff raised $250 million at an $8.5 billion valuation from Todd Boehly’s Eldridge Industries and Valor Equity Partners. The instant delivery platform hired BlackRock’s former CIO Matt McBrady as CFO, signaling financial discipline finally matters in quick commerce.
Lucky Energy closed $25 million Series B from Paine Schwartz Partners, bringing total funding to $60 million in two years. The brand hits 15,000 doors and adds Walmart, Sheetz, and Cumberland Farms in December.
The Growth Rounds
Plant People secured investment from Manna Tree and Unilever Ventures after 95% year-over-year growth and launching at 820 Target stores. The functional gummies brand represents Manna Tree’s first VMS investment.
Smash Foods raised 7-figures from Eclair Partners after tripling sales. The better-for-you snack brand now sells at Walmart, Costco, and Target.
Graymatter closed $1.3 million seed from Venrex and APEX for nootropic supplements targeting long-term brain health.
Paperboy Ventures is launching its debut fund after starting as a content series highlighting fundraising brands. The media-to-venture playbook continues.
The Celebrity Capital
Sanzo added Chrissy Teigen to its cap table. The Asian-inspired sparkling water brand already counts CircleUp and Convivialité among investors.
L’Oreal is issuing €3 billion in bonds to finance its €4 billion acquisition of Kering’s beauty division. Big Beauty consolidation accelerates.

Target’s Continued Expansion
Target added another wave of better-for-you brands this week. JAMS launched at 950+ stores, while Soom Foods secured 235 doors. The mass retailer continues its transformation into Whole Foods with conventional prices, betting that millennial parents will pay premium for perceived quality.
Walmart Welcomes Wellness
Pecana launched at 3,800 Walmart stores, proving plant-based dairy alternatives have gone fully mainstream. Lucky Energy’s December Walmart launch adds to the retailer’s growing energy drink selection. Even premium plays are finding homes at Walmart as the retailer sheds its discount-only image.
Whole Foods Goes Big
Mateína, the yerba mate brand backed by Andrew Huberman and Tiny, went chainwide at every North American Whole Foods. The expansion marks a major win for the category as functional beverages continue displacing traditional sodas and juices.

🔥 THE HOT TAKE
My unfiltered opinion on this week’s madness
YETI paid $38 million for a shaker bottle company. Let that sink in. That’s $38 million for a hexagon and a patent. No ball mixing technology apparently commands an eight-figure valuation in 2025.
Meanwhile, TreeHouse Foods – a company that actually makes food for millions of Americans – sold for $2.9 billion. They generate $3.2 billion in annual revenue. YETI paid 1.3% of TreeHouse’s enterprise value for a geometry lesson.
This perfectly captures modern CPG’s psychosis. Real food manufacturing with massive scale trades at less than 1x revenue. A shaker bottle innovation gets 10x. We value novelty over necessity, patents over production, story over sustenance.
The other story? Everyone’s raising again. TRIP at $300M+, Lucky at $60M total, Gopuff at $8.5B. The money printer is back on. VCs who swore off CPG in 2023 are writing checks like it’s 2021. Nothing was learned. Nothing was forgotten.
Monster launching FLRT for women feels like a Saturday Night Live sketch. Senada Greca’s supplement brand will sell because abs sell supplements. And somewhere, a TreeHouse factory quietly produces the private label products that actually feed America.
The premium-industrial complex marches on. Build shaker bottles, not food systems. That’s the game.

The Deeter Digest: Week in Review
Breaking down why YETI thinks geometry is worth $38M and whether relaxation beverages are the anti-energy drink revolution or just expensive water.
🥫 ONE MORE THING...
Before you close this tab
Champion is making fragrances with Revlon. Bubble launched color-correcting balms. Someone combined espresso and soda. The simulation isn’t just glitching – it’s having a full system crash.
But here’s what matters: Real businesses still make real things. TreeHouse feeds America. Perfect Bar grows 20% making refrigerated snacks. Lifeway’s kefir sales are up 29% because gut health is real, not trendy.
Find the boring businesses doing important things. They’re usually the ones making money.

P.S.
Study Supps launched supplements for students. Because apparently Adderall needs competition. Peak 2025 achieved.
